Before approval

  • Open the merchant cashier yourself; avoid links in unsolicited messages.
  • Check that MTN MoMo is listed for your account and that the amount is in GHS.
  • Compare the recipient and amount on your phone with the order. Reject an unexpected prompt.

After approval

Save the wallet receipt and compare it with the merchant’s transaction history. If your balance drops but the cashier remains pending, do not retry until the first transaction is traced.

Suspicious prompts

Use the official MTN Ghana fraud reporting instructions. No support agent needs your wallet PIN or a one-time code to trace a receipt.

The prompt appears after you close the cashier

An approval request can arrive when you are no longer looking at the original order. Open the operator history independently and match the amount, recipient and order before deciding whether to approve it. If you cannot match the request, decline it.

If you already approved it, preserve the actual wallet receipt and check the merchant history before opening another order.
